It seems that the mantra in today’s self-help world is I’ve got this! I’m strong and well-able to make life work myself by eating right, working out, following the principles of the latest and best self-help guru (fill in the blank), and the list goes on and on and on.
I’m not knocking healthy life choices.
Next month, I’ll turn 55, and I’m definitely trying to be wise about what I put into my body, exercising regularly, getting plenty of rest, and how I’m spending my time.
But I am a Christian and that means that I have a new MO for living.
I’m not in this world alone.
I have Christ living on the inside of me 24/7/365 and there’s a very important reason for that.
If you grew up in my generation, you might have heard, Do your best and God will do the rest and/or God helps those who helps themselves.
Maybe you’re still hearing those statements or some form of them.
The thing is, neither one of those statements holds any real weight in the Christian life.
Because both statements communicate a sense of doing life apart from dependence on the indwelling Christ.
Whether you are a newbie to Christian living or have had Christ living in you for years, I think you might benefit from the following words of your Beloved.
“My treasure, the instant you believed into Me, My divine power deposited everything you need for life and godliness into your new heart.”
“And now you have the choice to either rely on My limitless supply by faith or to exhibit a conscious (or subconscious) attitude of I’ve got this, Lord. I’ll let you know if I need your help.”
“When you do life with an independent mindset—as if you aren’t in 24/7/365 union with Me—you are not walking in the truth, by My Spirit.”
“And the worst part of it all is that you are missing out on the enjoyment that comes from conscious dependence on Me.”
“You might be wondering, how can I know when I am walking by your Spirit?”
“It is simple.”
“Walking by My Spirit is a posture of the soul.”
“An attitude of relaxed reliance on Me.”
“Each day upon waking, acknowledge My intimate partnership with you and ask Me to live through you.”
“Your part is to trust Me to live My life through you, and My part is to live through you.“
“This is walking by faith, not by sight or feelings.”
“In the same way you trusted Me for your salvation, trust Me to live through you each day.”
“Because this occurs in the spiritual realm, you are not necessarily going to feel My life coursing through your veins as you walk by faith.”
“If you consistently felt My power through you, faith wouldn’t be necessary.”
“Today, practice trusting Me to do all your tasks through you, even the seemingly insignificant ones like brushing your teeth and combing your hair.”
“And then, do the same thing tomorrow.”
“And the next day.”
“This way, relaxed reliance on Me will become a restful, fruitful way of life for you.”
