With the beginning of a new year (Can you believe it’s already 2019!), you might be like me, wanting to break unhealthy habits and form new ones to improve the quality of your life.
According to Dictionary.com, a habit is “an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary.”
I don’t know about you, but I like to keep things simple, not complicated.
There is one beneficial habit found in Paul’s letter to the church in Rome that, when developed, will automatically replace unhealthy ones.
Grab your Bible, a cup of your favorite beverage (mine is hot coffee), and lean in and listen to your Spiritual Bridegroom tell you how to develop the most beneficial habit of your life.
“My flawless bride, the most beneficial thing you can do upon waking each day is to remember who you are.”
“To remind yourself of what is already true about your eternal spiritual union with Me.”
“In other words, ‘do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.'”
“Conform means to take an outward form that is inconsistent with who you really are on the inside. “
“To act like someone you’re not.”
“The meaning of transform is the opposite of conform: to take an outward form consistent with who you really are on the inside.”
“To simply be yourself.”
“My desire is for your true (and only) self to be expressed.”
“One of the greatest obstacles to making your outside match your inside lies in the realm of your soul: feelings you experience that don’t line up with your true identity.”
“Continually allow My Word and indwelling Spirit to drive your life, rather than your feelings.”
“Feelings are most often ‘thought responders,’ so if you want to change your feelings, you need to change what you are thinking about.”
“The mind set on trusting dependence on My indwelling Spirit results in calm serenity and the vibrant expression of our holy union.”
“On the contrary, when you are not relying on Me, you are automatically relying on the flesh.”
” And reliance on the flesh is a dead end.”
“A life-and-peace thief.”
“When your focus is not on My indwelling Spirit and your flawless identity in me, you will be controlled by your outward circumstances and feelings, conformed to this world.”
“As a result, the expression of your true self is hindered.”
“On the other hand, when you focus on the truth of My indwelling Spirit and your pure, righteous, and holy identity in Me, the flow of My life in your spirit is released into your soul (conscious thoughts, feelings, attitudes) and body (actions).”
“This is what it means to be filled with My Spirit.”
“To be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
“To be yourself.”
Dear reader, will you join me in developing the most beneficial, most important habit you will ever form?
