Would you consider yourself to be a humble person?
Some people sincerely believe that viewing themselves as lowly worms is true humility.
I beg to differ.
True humility is seeing ourselves the same way our Beloved sees us—as new creations united with His Spirit, equipped with everything we need to live a holy life.
True humility is an understanding that we are nothing apart from Him, but at the same time realizing we are not apart from Him. Nor will we ever be.
We live this life, all the while understanding that our Beloved is living through us as we trust Him (Rom. 8:11).
Until we understand who we are in Christ, we will have a tendency to focus on our natural inadequacies.
If we belittle ourselves by dwelling on the shortcomings and failures of the flesh, it will ultimately lead to more walking by the flesh.
What we focus on will develop in our lives.
It’s just like taking a picture with a Polaroid instant camera.
Remember those?
Although their pictures weren’t as clear as the ones we get with the digital cameras of today, we still got a picture of the bowl of fruit we were focusing on when we pressed the red button.
What we focus on will develop in our lives. We would do well to remember that.
Christ longs for us to live out of an awareness and acknowledgment of our new identity in Him.
When we do this, we take our minds off the insufficiency of the flesh and put our focus where it rightly belongs—the complete sufficiency of the One who indwells our new heart.
Lean in and listen to the words of your Beloved today concerning the authentic humility you can learn to live from.
“My holy and beloved one, divine humility is an inherent characteristic of those who are one spirit with Me.”
“I laid aside My Deity when I came to this earth in the form of a bond-servant, being made in the likeness of men.”
“I humbled Myself by becoming obedient—to the point of death on a cross.”
“Even though I was rich, I became poor for your sake so that you might become rich through My poverty.”
“Everything I did, I did because I love you.”
“I did so that you could become a partaker in My divine nature.”
“Through My grace, you humbled yourself when you believed into Me.”
“You understood that you did not have the power to deliver yourself from this dark world.”
“Instead of placing faith in your ability to save yourself, you placed your faith in Me.”
“The moment you believed into Me, you were clothed with Me.”
“And My humility—along with compassion, kindness, gentleness, patience, forbearance, forgiveness, and love—is woven into the fabric of your new heart.”
“My humility will find its fullest expression through your life as you recognize that you are already a humble new creation in Me and rely on My grace and power within you.”
“To the world it will look like you regarding others as more important than yourself.”
“To the world it will look like Me.”
